Born and raised in Highland Park, Barisa has dedicated her career to serving and enhancing her community. As a City Councilmember appointed in June 2024, Barisa brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to improving Highland Park for all residents. Reflecting on her cherished memories of her upbringing in Highland Park, Barisa, along with her husband Joel, chose to raise their young family in the Braeside neighborhood of Highland Park because of all our great city has to offer, including safety, community, beauty, diversity, and love.
Barisa’s distinguished career in Public Policy and Administration has equipped her with extensive skills in leadership, management, budgeting, and policy implementation and prepared her to help lead the City of Highland Park into the future.
Her approach to governance is grounded in understanding the needs and concerns of Highland Park residents through open dialogue and transparency. She is committed to reaching new heights while exercising fiscal responsibility and emphasizing environmental sustainability and diversity, aiming to create a prosperous and safe community.
